Dr. David J. Cho is the founder of the Summer Institute of World Mission(SIWM) in the Non-Western World in 1973. It had continued for 26 years until 1999. More than 2,000 missionaries and local pastors received cross-cultural training at the Institute. They came from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, as well as from Korea. More than 50 missiologists all over the world were invited as faculty.
Summer Institute of World Mission(SIWM) was upgraded into the East-West Center for Missions Research & Development(EWC/mrd) and became the official training school of the Asia Missions Association. It was the model of consortium between the East and the West for the Asian missionary leadership development through exchanging professors of different schools of world mission in Europe and America and academic recognition with the East-West Center for Missions Research & Development(EWC/mrd).
EWC/mrd is now launching the East-West Center for Intercultural Studies(EWCIS). EWCIS offers missionaries, cross-cultural workers, and church leaders MASTER OF ART in Intercultural Studies and DOCTOR OF INTERCULTURAL STUDIES.
EWC/mrd has had a long relationship with William Carey International University and the US Center for World Mission in the United States. The Center also has a steady partnership with the Asia Center for Theological Studies and Mission(ACTS), Korea. EWCIS will be pursuing affiliations in ATA and AGST.
